Archaeology

The Terralba territorial area possesses numerous testimonies of rural archaeological sites, making it a suitable place for the study of rural organization and the way the territory was exploited.

The Terralba Project is been carried out in cooperation with the University of Glasgow, then Brown University, and Universitat de València; it was developed to deal with the modalities of civil life and the forms of rural organization during the Punic period, by means of the multidisciplinary research of several small and medium sized rural Punic settlements, located in the Terralba zone. The principal aims of this research project are essentially two:

- To document the architectural and functional characteristic of the Punic factories of the Classic period.
- To compile paleo-environmental and geomorphologic evidence to obtain direct information about the agricultural activity of the Punic period (van Dommelen; Gómez Bellard 2012a: 21-23).

Over the course of this project two Punic farms, Truncu'e Molas and Pauli Stincus, were excavated, allowing us to document domestic and craftsmanship structures, as a storage room, wine presses and two wells, one of them might correspond to a waterwheel.
